PinPoint Mouse Enhancer App Reviews

Awesome App!

Ive been using PinPoint for about a year now and love it. Coming from Windows into a Mac environment I found it odd that there were no native cursor enhancements included with the Mac OS. PinPoint was the perfect solution for this missing feature and I definitely recommend it to anyone needing a bigger cursor. I recently upgraded to Mac OS X Lion and had a problem with the PinPoint cursor disappearing after about 10 seconds of use after a reboot. A simple removal and reinstall of the software solved the problem. Support was responsive and courteous.

Awesome Customer Service

I was using the trial version and noticed a problem. I sent a query to customer service and had a response within 10 minutes. The representative was most helpful and exchanged a few emails to ensure he understood the problem and could work on a solution. I just purchased the full version based on the excellent customer service. Such developers are worhty of my support. Oh yeah, the program itself is great as well.

A Good Utility Nicely Done

There are several options available for customizing your cursor, but PinPoint does it very well and at a fair price. It features a very friendly interface while offering a large variety of customizing options. All designs are well thought out and nicely crafted. Although PinPoint includes a large selection of cursor designs it also provides the option to add your own. Each can have infinite variations of size, color, transparency and motion where appropriate. There are several options with adjustable delays for triggering the PinPoint cursor on and off. The developer is very responsive and appears genuinely interested in maintaining and growing PinPoint. Feedback is graciously accepted. I fully expect it to gain more features and functionality over time. There is nothing to lose here. UPDATE: Although PinPoint still serves me well at home I cannot use it at work behind a proxy server. The developers says that the apps connecting to the App Store is Apples code and they cannot fix the problem. This is interesting since none of my other App Store purchases have this problem. If you are behind a company firewall you may want to skip this app.

great, but....

love this app! i use the giant red + style crosshair, helps me find the mouse when using multiple monitors. much easier for me (less eye strain) to work on the computer.

Really useful for giving training classes or just finding your mouse while using multiple monitors

Excellent execution. Way too many options, several quite garish, but still pretty simple to setup. Nice for giving software training classes where students need to follow your tiny cursor. You can also turn on showing your keystrokes so student can follow your keyboard shortcuts. Also useful when youre using multiple monitors and you lose the cursor. You can set the effect to show up always or only after you havent moved the mouse for some amount of time.

If Only

Terrific, but for three things… Some of the options are brilliant (e.g., full screen crosshair, large arrow), but the majority of them are (forgive me) tacky. Subtlety and very restrained taste are required to keep something so ubiquitous from becoming irritating. Id rather the app were a sys pref with the option to display in the menu bar, rather than a menu-bar only app. But finally, the thing that actually matters, which Id bow, scrape, and throw rose petals in the developers paths to get would be similar treatment of the insertion point. For those of us who do nearly everything with keyboard shortcuts, the pointer isnt really the issue. I lose the insertion point every five minutes – I must rapidly tap →←→←→←→← a hundred times a day. Its maddening.

Pretty cooooool!

Fun and useful application….finally can find my pointer easily. I would recommend this app! I use it daily and find it very helpful.

Good and useful, but conflicts with Time Machine

I like this application and held back one star because of a minor inconvenience. I discovered I need to quit Pinpoint before I use Time Machine. The graphics cards in my MBP are not able to handle both the Time Machine and Pinpoint simultaneously. If Pinpoint is left on, I get a very sluggish response from Time Machine. Minor inconvenience however, and easy to quit Pinpoint. So, four stars.

Awesome app!

One problem with the OS X user interface, which is especially pronounced if you have a 27" iMac, is that the screen elements are too small. In particular, the pointer. Sure, you can expand the size of the pointer in System Preferences. But, before Lion, it was pixelated and ugly. In Lion, they finally fixed it to make it a high-resolution image. But theres still a major problem: a large pointer will often block elements of the user interface -- especially those pop-up bubbles that tell you what an icon does. Its reallly annoying. Pinpoint takes care of all that. It allows you to use the tiny pointer while still being able to see where you are. Ive become fond of the large arrow option. It allows you to have a large, semi-transparent arrow extend from your small pointer. Now, I can still see where my pointer is, but its not blocking anything from view! Awesome!

5 x 27" monitors, two machines - Pinpoint is a must

I run a pretty custom setup. Mac Pro/Imac with 5 x 27" monitors. I am prone to lose my pointer often. I use the full screen cross hairs on both machines, this allows me to find my mouse when it is lost. Over time I realized that in this mode Pinpoint leaks memory so I sent in a support request. The gentleman responded back to me, listented to my concerns and is in the process of working up a fix. I dont care if it is a "little buggy" or "leaks memory" …support like this alone should get you to purchas this app! Thanks team.

Great App

An app like this provides something so necessary and basic that it truly should be included in the OS in my opinion. The basic arrow in OSX is just dismal for figuring out where your pointer is at any given time. Thankfully, the guys at Lagente have written an amazing & option-rich app for enhancing the pointer on your Mac. I really like a lot of the pointer option art work and animations and they make your pointer visible even in bright conditions (like outside) so you can see what youre doing! This is also really useful if youre doing a presentation or doing a demo video for showing where you clicked. Oh, and the tech support is PHENOMENAL. I have never before requested support for an app and recieved a reply literally within minutes offering to help me. Support like this is very hard to come by! I am an app (iPhone) developer myself and it is especially amazing to get replies that fast! Thanks for a well written and well supported app. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Great support

I originally reported that this app is a little buggy, but I have to say that I pose a somewhat unusual problem for the developer and they have been VERY responsive. Im impressed with the integrity and effort of the developer, and the willingness to fix my problem with Pinpoint. For that alone, five stars.

Great App.

Does what I need it to do. Would like more pointer themes.

Something no one else is doing for the Mac

Ive been using PinPoint for over a year now to add important real-time highlighting to my screencasts (at BuildAModule). Coupled with a little app called Cursorcerer, you can hide your real mouse cursor and just display PinPoints, which is critical for producing the highlighting effects. It seems like PinPoint is really filling a void for Mac, and Im so glad theres a solution that works.

Indispensable ; Must have

With the new options this is without a doubt the best mouse locator. I don’t see that well and my 27" Apple LED on highest resolution it is sometimes hard to find the cursor. Pinpoint does the job perfectly. Lots of cursor location options make this fun to play with as well. There are also keystroke options I have not investigated yet. Try it ... you will not be disappointed. Thanks … Ken

Now its working perfectly!

After months of trying to figure out why it wouldnt save my settings.. PinPoint is finally working perfect on my iMac again! (Its always worked on my MBP, but the iMac has never saved any settings. ever… Back and forth emails with the Dev with suggestions never worked. (Lagente support was very helpful working with me on this, Props to Renaud) Its working now after running an installer script from their support page, for an old version of PinPoint… It uninstalled something, but not PinPoint. PinPoint is working exactly how it should now, And I once again LOVE PinPoint!

Very useful especially with multiple monitors

When I switched to 2 monitors, often I would lose track of where the cursor was. Pinpoint to the rescue! Recently I had a problem installing the latest upgrade, but Renaud at Lagente Support was extremely helpful.

FNATASTIC!!! A MUST have if you run two monitors….

I downloaded several programs like tihis before find this little gem. It allows control over so many features- perfect for my needs. Since I had loaded another program similar to this, a conflict was created that crashed my Mac Book Pro i7. I began freaking out, so I worte the program and received a response within an HOUR! He was very helpful and did not give up! Over the next couple days we emailed back and forth with links for tests and a very through list of things to experiment that might resolve the issue. The problem was all my creation! I love this program, it certainly does what it promises and the support behind it is impressive!!!!

Very handy and user friendly

I was a little reluctant when I saw the $4.99 price tag, but Im glad I took the plunge anyway. There were so many positive reviews lauding the customer service of this company that I was willing to pay the five bucks since it seemed like a quality product. I needed a mouse pointer that would help me locate the cursor on the screen when using Microsoft Word. I change the screen to blue to write, and I could never find the mouse when I needed to select text. What I love about this app is that I can toggle it on and off, and I can select to have a glowing circle appear around my mouse when I move it -- and only for a second, and it goes away when the mouse is still. (Some of the images make it look like the mouse animation or graphics need to be there all the time, and thats not true.) I also LOVE that I can toggle the effects on and off. The program toggles show right in the menu bar at the top of your screen (so next to the Wifi meter and the battery), so it couldnt be easier to toggle on when Im in Word and off when Im in something else. Definitely worth the money. Love it so far.

Didnt Meet My Expectations

I hoped this app would help solve a problem Ive had lately: losing my cursor while working on Photoshop files. Id often have to swing my cursor back up to my top menu to get the arrow to reappear. This app solved the problem of the disappearing cursor, but created some problems of its own, and the options it gives you all look gimmicky. This app could be great … in the hands of someone with a little more artistic taste. Sorry to be so harsh.
